I was initially introduced to contemporary & smooth jazz saxophonist and music producer Vandell Andrew’s music in 2011 when he released the album, Years Later, and I’ve been following his music ever since. Vandell quoted, at that time, that he had “grown mentally and spiritually”. He’s right. The music he’s been composing and recording over the past years demonstrates that growth and ensures his place among his peers as a very skillful entertaining saxophonist. He’s definitely got the successes to prove it with a Billboard smooth jazz chart #1 album in 2014 [Turn it Up], along with several charted Billboard singles, of which two were in the Top 10; and a 2014 Soul Train Award Nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance. Now Vandell Andrew brings jazz music listeners his newest quality project titled “30”. This album is, in my opinion, the best of Vandell. It’s sassy…and filled with chill sax sounds like “Climax” and this track [Chill AF] as well as some very jazzy sax grooves as in “Just Once” and “The Groove”. Accompanying Vandell on the album is saxophonist Marcus Anderson and Bassist Julian Vaughn. You’ll also like listening to the beautiful soulful voices of singer(s) Britt Frappier on the track “Somehow” and Tempest B on the track “To You”.
